Dashabhuja Ganpati

Pune has always been a place with a rich culture and heritage. The place has a vast history and has seen significant development over the years.

We know Pune for various reasons like topmost educational facilities, it’s climate and the quirkiness of people amongst other things. Another important reason why Pune is famous is for its religious background and beliefs. We see a lot of temples of Lord Ganesha in Pune including the Dagdusheth Ganpati, Tambadi Jogeshwari, Kasaba Ganpati and many more.
One of the temples is Dashabhuja Ganpati temple situated on Paud Phata, in kothrud. The temple was built in the reign of the Peshwas.

What does Dashabhuja mean?
Dahsa in sanskrit means 10 in English whereas Bhuja in Sanskrit means arms. The idol in the temple has 10 arms and hence the name ‘Dashabhuja’.

What’s unique about the idol?
This idol is said to be discovered while digging a well in a private plot in Laxminagar near Parvati.
The idol faces south in direction which is rare and the trunk turns right instead of left is considered auspicious.

The idol is chrome coloured, made of stone. The aura of the temple immediately makes you feel content.  A person should visit this temple at least once when in Pune. Thousands of devotees visit the temple every day to get blessings and especially during
Ganesh Chaturthi, the most popular festival celebrated with such grandeur in Pune.
