Dangerous water hyacinth in Wanwadi, Hadapsar

Water hyacinth has grown in large numbers in the old Mula-Mutha canal in Wanwadi and Hadapsar. In addition, garbage is being dumped in the canal by the citizens. Public health is at risk as large amounts of wastewater are being discharged from unauthorized sources. There has been an increase in encroachments towards the canal. It is being neglected by the Irrigation Department and the Municipal Corporation.

The sewage and waste from the canal has increased the number of mosquitoes, odors and fish and the people in the area are getting sick. Dengue patients are more common in canal societies. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the canal clean. The citizens of the area have repeatedly approached the Irrigation Department to make the canal underground and build a road on it, remove the encroachments towards the canal and take action on the encroachments. But this is being ignored by the concerned administration.
