Kasba Peth- The heart of Pune
Established in the 5th century, Kasba Peth was the first Peth to be developed in Pune and is the oldest area in the city. It is said to be the first locality to be built in the city under the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This Peth was developed around the ''Kasba Ganpati''. It is known as the ''heart of Pune city''. During the yesteryears, the city was known as ''Kasbe Pune''. The true charm of Pune lies in the narrow lanes of Kasba Peth, which are surrounded by vibrant houses that have old wooden doors and rustic pillars. Most houses are wada-structured, which take you back to ancient times. The Kumbhar wada (pottery haven) and brass and copper utensil manufacturers are found in this area. The Lal Mahal- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s fortified residence is also situated in Kasba Peth.
